TxDOT Reminds to “Know When to Pass The Keys” Before Superbowl

With the Super Bowl around the corner, the Texas Department of Transportation is reminding people to Know When to Pass the keys.  The partying associated with football unfortunately spills over onto the roadways, on occasion.  According to the Texas DOT, big football games lead to an increase in drunk driving.  The DOT reports:

  • Football game days are often associated with the highest levels of alcohol consumption;
  • More than half of all Texans report having at least three drinks while at football watching parties;
  • Almost half of Texans that drink at football watching parties report driving themselves home;
  • Driving fatalities jump 41% following the Super Bowl;
  • Drunk driving arrests increase 13% the day of college home football games;
  • Six percent of the 27,237 DUI crashes in Texas in 2009 occurred on football game days when a Texas team was participating; and
  • Five percent of the 867 DUI fatality crashes in Texas in 2009 occurred on football game days when a Texas team was participating.

If you have plans this year to watch the Super Bowl, remember to not Drink and Drive.  If you drink, have a designated driver or get a taxi.  If you choose to driver drunk, you are putting the lives of many at risk.  If you or a loved one has been injured by a drunk driver, contact the Drunk Driving Accident Injury Lawyer at Hill Law Firm today to ensure your rights are protected.
