The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office are investigating two crashes that happened Thursday, October 24 that should serve as a reminder that there is a lot to watch out for on Texas roads.
The first accident happened when a passenger car collided with an 18-wheeler that was owned by Acme Brick at approximately 8:15 a.m. Thursday morning. That accident occurred at the intersection of Lone Star Parkway and Texas 105, just about a mile west of Montgomery High School.
DPS gave no details on the accident, except to say that no one had died. But there were shattered glass and vehicle parts were scattered all over the intersection, and both vehicles were heavily damaged and had to be towed from the scene, so there were possibly injuries as a result.
Then, there was a three-car rollover accident at the intersection of FM 1485 and Baptist Encampment Road near New Caney at a little after 2 p.m. that same day. According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, one person was transported by helicopter to Memorial Hermann-The Woodlands Hospital in critical condition, while two others were taken by ambulance to Kingwood Medical Center with serious injuries. A fourth victim reported problems breathing at first, but was treated at the scene. All information regarding the details of the accident were withheld, although DPS Troopers closed through traffic on FM 1485 for more than an hour.
There are few details available as of now for either of these accidents, but they do show that there are risks to driving and preparing for the worst case is probably a good decision. Thorough investigations of these accidents will be conducted, and I may be found that someone in each accident was either drunk or distracted, or made a maneuver he or she shouldn’t have made. It’s also possible one or more of these vehicles had a defect that made it unsafe to be on the road. Perhaps the 18-wheeler hadn’t been maintained properly, or the driver was too exhausted. Until all details are known, anything is possible.
